Speaker:  Rebecca shared with the group how Teresa Snow’s Salvation Farms project has now become the Vermont Food Bank with refrigerated storage space in Wolcott.  Rebecca is the Lamoille Valley Field Director and Teresa is working on a state wide gleaning project and is currently working out of Brattleboro. Several large Lamoille Area farms as well as small gardens produced 300,000 lbs of produce that was distributed as food last year rather than ending up as compost and in landfills. Senior centers, food shelves and Senior Centers and after School Programs are receiving healthy local food items.

Volunteers are always needed to glean the fields, pick up and distribute produce and outdated food in a timely manner. Community release people are able to complete their time thru this program. Funding is through donations and federal grants.

Contact Rebecca at 472-8280 ext. 1401 or rbeidler@vtfoodbank.org

Lucien shared how he grew up in Orleans County, served in the US military, worked in many different places for Pizzagalli Construction before starting his own construction business in Wolcott with his family. Rotarians were invited to visit with Lucien after the meeting.
